So when I first arrived at CCF I took a photo of the front entrance sign so I could send it out and tell everyone that I had made it. Great, no problems. Then about 10 minutes later I looked at my phone and it had these odd green lines across the screen. No idea why. They were annoying when trying to look at photos, but overall did not affect the overall use of my phone. A few days ago this small black bar appeared in the right side of my screen. It blocked the battery sign, but other than that it wasn’t a huge deal. Yesterday, the black bar grew and took up about 1/3 of the screen. Now this was annoying and affected much more of the functionality of the phone. An hour later? The whole screen was taken up by blackness and now my phone is a shiny paperweight. Sorry of my life with technology. And of course because, well you know – Africa, it’s not like I can easily get it fixed or replaced. It’s truly sad how our smart phones have become such a huge part of our lives, and I am definitely no exception, I feel so naked without it. So as of right now I am utterly phoneless. If you need to try and get a hold of me the best option is email or to Facebook me, and then wait because I only have internet access when I am near the Hot Spot or in my office and that is when the internet feels like working. Today there wasn’t any internet in the office even. One day disconnected and I feel so detached from the world. I’m pathetic.
Tarik taught me this last night – TIA. It’s the answer to so much here. TIA. This is Africa.
I swear I am going to try and embrace my half “off the grid” status, but I am also going to try and remedy my broken phone situation somehow.
